This Weekend's Events (14th to 16th)

Hi Everyone

You may have noticed that this coming weekend coincides with Valentine's Day.  The one day of the year where we mark that moment when the renowned scoundrel St Valentine himself crossed to the Dark Side and became a PR executive at Hallmark Cards.  Thus making all couples feel guilty for not being able to get a bigger card or a better bunch of flowers for their significant other than the purchase they could afford to make, and a sense of angry relief from single people for knowing that even though they're unattached, they don't have to suffer this somewhat disheartening charade every year (Every cloud has a silver lining... sort of!)

(Gary, can you double-check this?  Are you absolutely certain it was Hallmark and not Moonpig or Simon Elvin?  Some people get very picky about facts for some reason.  Good lad!)

On Friday we bring you THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players, the possibilities are endless.

This month's instalment comes in the shape of THE POWER OF LOVE.  A Valentine's special, no less!  an evening themed around 'love' in all its guises. Dr RICHARD STEPHENS is a successful author, musician and researcher who lectures in psychology at the University of Keele. He will be presenting 'The Psychology of Romantic Love in 7 Number One Singles'. The  Folk-rock band RUSHKEEPER features Tony Lyons ex of Reading folk giants 'Pressgang'  The bill also includes poets TONY WHITE and SARAH SMITH who have two very different poetic takes on the nature of love. In an exciting....yet perhaps predictable move we have now added comedian, raconteur and Reading's own 'Mr Romance MIKHAIL THE TERRIBLE as the compere and MC for this evening

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door to get in

On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY presents IN MALCOLM WE TRUST

A special episode celebrating the birthday of the one and only Malcolm Unwin.  Punter, promoter and lead singer.  He is one of the good guys.  He is one of the faces on the local Reading music scene.

If he likes your band-then you must be doing something great.

The bands playing

WOLFS
Your fave two-piece rocknroll pop hitting machine.  For punks.  For pop kids.  For rock fans.  This side of bubblegum-with a huge dash of tenure.  Tiptop stuff.  Ace.

EAT DADDY EAT
Your fave three piece-full on the throttle punknroll beast.  They deal in great rocknroll for the masses.

NEW PURITANS
Your face four piece-new wave Reading legends.  No messing around from these punk rockers.

We're open at 8pm, tickets are £5 in advance from http://www.wegottickets.com and slightly more than that on the night

That's everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav, Google or something else, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
