Hi Everyone

You might be interested to know we've reached two important milestones on that new-fangled facebook thingy recently: over 1,000 likes and over 2,000 people checking in. We're really chuffed about it!  Almost as chuffed as we are to see the arrival of the Christmas tree at Matalan

And following on from that particular round of trumpet-blowing, we have the following for your delectation at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday we have none other than THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players…the possibilities are endless.

This month Big Untidy bring you Croydon's finest two-piece FRAUDS, as well as Reading's very own articulate ranters UNCLE PEANUT and HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN. Just when you thought 'the night couldn't get any better than this'...it does! There's also LUKE PAULO AND THE GRAPEFRUIT and LEISURE TANK'S indie-flavoured RnB grooviness on this month's bill.

We're open at 8pm and it'll ocst you no more than £5 on the door

On Saturday morning we bring you a HERITAGE OPEN DAY

The Rising Sun Arts Centre is a grade 2 listed building reputed to be originally designed and built by architect Alfred Waterhouse for his wife as a temperance house. Some 138 years later it is now used as a vibrant and unique arts centre with a passion for our community and heritage. Join us as we delve into the Rising Sun's history through an art exhibition of work created for and about the centre, special poetry readings and a guide to the building’s intriguing past. Our cafe will be open with homemade refreshments and it promises to be a great opportunity to explore the centre and all it has to offer.

Heritage Open Day is England’s biggest heritage festival, celebrating history, architecture and culture. See www.heritageopendays.org.uk for more venues taking part.

We're open from 10am to 4pm and it's absolutely FREE!

On Saturday evening, we have something special in the shape of EL FLECHA NEGRA

El Flecha Negra is a roaring river made of many different musical currents with Latin rhythms like reggae and cumbia at its heart.
Many years ago the members met in Barcelona, the cradle of half blood bands, where everyone played in different groups; after many years of sharing and playing separately, they decided to shape this cheerful and charismatic band.

We're open at 8.30pm and it'll cost you a paltry £8 on the door

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
