Beat Street (Stan Lathan 1984). Beat Street brings together a huge number of notable musicians and b-boys/b-girls in performance. The NY Breakers, Us Girls, Busy Bee, Melle Mel and the Furious Five, Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force, Tina B., Brenda Starr, Treacherous Three, Kool Herc, Kool Moe Dee and Doug E. It has a slightly 80's ‘lets make a musical’ plot but this shouldn't put anyone off. It’s a snapshot of the Bronx, birthplace of hip hop, at a time when hip hop was still about dancing, rapping and graffiti. The performances, especially the break dance scenes, are outstanding. Beat Street is being shown as part of Black History Month.
